About the Artist
Kris Vaughan, Artist

I began drawing as soon as I could hold a crayon, and I knew from a very young age that I was fulfilled by creating art. At 12 years old I did my first portrait in graphite; it was a native American woman, and I completed it as a gift for my grandpa. He had it on his wall and was so proud of it my whole life. After he passed when I was 34, my aunt returned that portrait to me and I was grateful that he had kept it for all those years. That single portrait solidified my belief that my art can touch people in ways I was unaware of.
As I raised children, I set my artwork aside for many years and found my way back to it after my children grew up. I rediscovered the fulfillment of the process of creating and found that I see and express things in a deeper way as a woman who has experienced things in life.
My first love in art was portraits and figure drawing. My main medium was graphite and charcoal, and I continue to be a portrait artist of humans and pets. I now also work with acrylic paint, colored pencils, and pastels to show the vibrant beauty that I see in the normal everyday scenes around me.
Thank you for viewing my art and allowing it to be a part of your world. Enjoy!
